Mindfulness & Meditation At Work

We live busy, distracted and highly connected lives. For many of us, it’s difficult to find time for pausing and reflection outside of work, let alone during the working day.

How do we stay productive, creative, focused and calm in the face of never-ending ‘to do’ lists, flooding inboxes, the increasing demands of others and ‘knock off’ hours that run long into the night?

While there are great advantages to being connected 24/7, endless busyness can cause stress and exhaustion to the detriment of our health and wellbeing.

This introductory workshop is designed for people who are curious about mindfulness, meditation, and the benefits of bringing both into everyday working life. You will be introduced to meditation and mindfulness as 'formal' and 'informal' practices, and the ideas that underpin them.

This class explores how pausing to connect with our present moment experience can cultivate the resilience and equanimity needed to sustain a hectic working life.

'Meditation practice isn't about trying to throw ourselves away and become something better. It's about befriending who we are already.'
- Pema Chödrön

Megan Spencer is a professional broadcaster, film critic, journalist and media-maker. Her interest in meditation came about after a work-related health issue caused by sustained stress. She has practiced Mindfulness Based Stillness Meditation since 2009, first learning at The Gawler Foundation, later completing MBSM Teacher Training.

Having returned to Australia after living in Berlin for 2.5 years, since 2015 she has taught mindfulness meditation classes, courses, retreats and workshops in Germany and Australia, including at The School of Life in both countries.

Self-care and kindness are of particular interest. Currently a Breathworks 'teacher-in-training' - and on the path towards accreditation - in March 2018 Megan undertook Breathworks Introductory Teacher Training, taught by co-founder Vidyamala Burch. In April 2017 Megan undertook MSC Teacher Training (Mindful Self-Compassion). She is a member of Meditation Australia.

Workshops and Intensives allow more time for an in-depth exploration of the topic through conversation and activities. Our workshops provide an opportunity to work with leading members of our faculty over the course of a highly structured day.
